In a recent discovery, more than 2,000 mummified ram heads and a palatial old kingdom were unearthed by archaeologists at the temple of Ramses II in the ancient city of Abydos in southern Egypt. If reports are to go by, this discovery is linked to the Ptolemaic period. Abydos is located around 270 miles south of Cairo, which is also one of Egypt’s lesser visited archaeological sites. The site served as a necropolis for early ancient Egyptian royalty and a pilgrimage centre for the worship of the god Osiris. Apart from the mummified remains of the animals, the team of researchers also discovered a large palatial structure, featuring walls that are around 5m thick from the Old Kingdom’s sixth dynasty, along with several statues, ancient tree remains, papyri, leather garments, and more.
Delhi Tourism to start heritage walks on 6 circuits from today
Delhi Tourism is all set to start heritage walks from today to showcase the charm of the major hubs in the capital, and also share in-depth knowledge about all the monuments and the related history. As per the reports, it has selected six circuits for the said heritage walks. Delhi Tourism stated that they will focus on providing a fully immersive experience, and for that they have identified six different walks. While two are in Old Delhi, one is in Shahjahanabad, then there is the walk of Qutub Minar and Mehrauli archeological Park, a walk of Hauz Khas, and a walk of museums and memorials.
Reports have it that these guided walks will be of around three hours, and will be conducted by licensed guides having in depth knowledge about these circuits.
Gujarat plans to turn Mokarsagar wetland into eco-tourism destination
The coastal city of Porbandar in Gujarat is in the process of turning the Gosabara-Mokarsagar wetland into a sustainable eco-tourism destination. The wetland is one of the most thriving sites in Porbandar in terms of nature and wildlife.
As per reports, Gujarat plans to develop the Gosabara-Mokarsagar wetland complex in order to draw more tourists to the city, especially wildlife and nature enthusiasts. They believe that by doing so, they will be able to control the increasing salinity of the water, and create and improve habitat for the resident as well as migratory birds. The Gosabara-Mokarsagar wetland is spread over an area of approximately 90 sq km, and is home to over 186 species of birds. The project aims at developing an interpretation zone, guesthouses, eateries, parking lots, watchtowers and nature trails around the wetland.
