After two years of uncertainty and cancelled plans, the biggest music festivals in India are back.

From Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh to Magnetic Fields in Rajasthan here are six music festivals to watch out for, to plan a quick getaway with your friends and fellow music aficionados.

Sunburn

Sunburn, among the most popular music festivals in India, is set to happen again in December this year. With a mix of music, dance and loads of other activities, the festival has toured across India as Sunburn Arena events. This year’s Goa lineup includes Grammy award-winning artist Afrojack and DJs Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, along with many others to offer you the experience of a lifetime.

Dates: December  28 to 30, 2022

Ziro Music Festival

Ziro Festival of Music is one of India’s biggest music festivals, taking place in the picturesque Ziro village in Arunachal Pradesh. This year’s lineup includes Rabbi Shergill, Baba Sehgal, Bipul Chhetri, the Japanese band Pinky Doodle Poodle, and many more.

Dates: September 29 to October 2, 2022

Hornbill Festival

Kisama, a heritage village in northeastern India near Kohima, is the site of the annual Hornbill festival. The festival, which includes music, dance, art, food, and more, celebrates Nagaland’s culture, history, and music. The festival lineup has not been announced yet, but visitors can expect to be delighted by the music, spellbinding folk dances, and souvenirs they can bring back home.

Dates: December 1 to 10, 2022

Magnetic Fields Festival

The Magnetic Fields Festival is another great music event that will take you to Rajasthan’s vibrant colours. This December, the fest will return to Alsisar after a brief hiatus caused by a pandemic, and it will be focusing on creating and introducing new music to its visitors. This event is a once in a lifetime experience as you will be witnessing everything from classic rock to jazz, folk music and more.

Dates: December 9 to 11, 2022

Musicathon

Musicathon, another popular music festival that takes place in the mountains, is back for its eighth edition this year. A two-day festival, it features over a dozen indie artists. You’ll have a great time listening to the music of artists such as music composer and singer Nilotpal Bora, who composed the score for the hit web series TVF Tripling Season 2, Yahan Koi Nahi fame Punit Singh, Buland Himalay a.k.a. Jatin Sharma, and so on.

Rajasthan International Folk Festival

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival is set to take place in Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. It will be held in the presence of the spectacular backdrops, and it will include performances from a variety of artists. You can expect to see performances by musicians including Tabor, Arifa, Sumitra Devi, Europe’s most prominent Sinti gypsy group, manjira and other traditional Indian instruments.

Dates: October 6 to 10, 2022
Venue: Mehrangarh Fort, Rajasthan
