India to roll out e-passports for hassle-free international travel
As per the latest development, India is working to roll out e-passports in a move to make international travel easier and hassle-free, and enable protection against identity theft. The announcement was made on the occasion of Passport Sewa Diwas. It was also announced that the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) will be embarking on an upgraded and improved version PSP V2.0 to ensure a digital ecosystem among all stakeholders and offer enhanced passport services to citizens. The upgraded Passport Seva System has been integrated with the DigiLocker system to facilitate a paperless documentation process. “It would ensure smooth governance end-to-end through standardised and liberalised processes, use of latest and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Chat-Bot, Use of Big-Data, Advance Analytics etc.”
Broadway to End Mask Mandate in July
Broadway theaters are dropping their mask mandates next month, letting audience members opt to go maskless for the first time since theaters fully reopened last September. The Broadway League, the industry’s trade association, said it would re-evaluate masking rules monthly. Broadway shows reopened at 100% capacity in September, with strict safety policies in place, after remaining closed for a year and a half because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2022-23 Broadway season, which started at the end of May, has grossed $94.5 million as of June 12, according to the Broadway League. Total attendance in the first three weeks was more than 728,500, the group said.
Yellowstone National Park to partly reopen after rare closure forced by floods, rockslides
The Yellowstone National Park will partly reopen on Wednesday after record flooding and rockslides following a burst of heavy rains that led the park to be closed for the first time in 34 years. The entire Yellowstone National Park in USA, spanning parts of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, was closed to visitors, including those with lodging and camping reservations, from last Monday, as officials inspected damage to roads, bridges and other facilities. The closure came as Yellowstone was gearing up to celebrate its 150th anniversary year, and as local communities heavily dependent on tourism were counting on a rebound following Covid-19 travel restrictions over the past two summers.
