The Louisiana Office of Tourism recently revealed that the state will be joining six others in the South as part of the MICHELIN Guide American South initiative. This collaboration aims to showcase Louisiana’s rich and varied culinary scene and marks the debut of a regional MICHELIN Guide in North America.

The MICHELIN Guide bestows its prestigious stars to recognize outstanding restaurants. A single MICHELIN Star signifies excellent cooking that merits a visit. Two Stars indicate superb cuisine worth a detour, and Three Stars are reserved for truly extraordinary dining experiences worthy of a dedicated trip. The Bib Gourmand honors establishments that provide great food at reasonable prices, while a “recommended” label is given to restaurants offering consistently high-quality meals.

“One of the many reasons people visit our great state is because of the food. We have some of the freshest seafood and our Cajun and Creole cultures serve up dishes unique to Louisiana. It’s another way to Feed Your Soul when you visit our great state,” said Louisiana Office of Tourism Assistant Secretary Doug Bourgeois.

This new regional focus allows MICHELIN to go beyond the typical urban areas and dive deeper into the unique culinary identities of Southern states. Travel South USA—the largest regional tourism marketing organization—along with state tourism departments, will work together on promotional efforts targeting both local and international audiences, especially those passionate about food and travel.

“As we celebrate the ‘Year of Food,’ this is just one more way we can highlight how special our food, history, and culture are to the rest of the world. Louisiana is known as much for its culinary talent as it is known for its musical talent,” said Bourgeois.

Other states participating include Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These join the existing MICHELIN Guide coverage in Atlanta.

The official list of recognized restaurants will be announced later this year at the MICHELIN Guide Ceremony for the American South.
