Here are the hottest new restaurant openings in the capital city
It’s suddenly getting very hot in Delhi; the temperature has shot up all in the space of two weeks. Definitely time to head out for those long, chilled drinks that quench the thirst and raise your spirits! If you’re anything like us, the hubby and I have our favourite haunt – the ever-popular Irish House. It’s really close to home, has all the brands we enjoy and chilled music. And they make great cocktails! And if you swing by right after work, you can take full advantage of their extended happy hour!
Many people have their preferred bars and hang out there, chatting with other regulars. Over time it becomes like a mini community, a reference group, a place for after-hours networking and good conversation. Then there are the others, mostly the younger generation, who are way more adventurous and throng in new places. And brand-new restaurants and bars keep opening all over the city all the time, tempting these youngsters with their food, drink, ambience and music.
It’s difficult to keep pace with mushrooming resto-bars, but here are some novel drinking establishments in Delhi that are now luring patrons. So, in no particular order:
Deja Brew
Located in M Block Market, GK 2, Deja Brew has a fine selection of hard liquor, cocktails, craft beer, food to suit every palate and live music in a very attractive setting. There’s something for everyone in this happy place! Their list of signature cocktails is most interesting; how would you like to try a Beer Margarita Poptail, a Bodega Dog or a Spice on Ice? I’d say go for it!
Address: M-20, Block M, Greater Kailash II, Greater Kailash, New Delhi, Delhi 110048
Maruchi
This hot and happening place has opened on Aurobindo Marg overlooking the Qutab Golf Course. It is surrounded by greenery complete with a Firangi Paani tree bridge and a koi pond; it has both indoor and outdoor seating, great food choices including an open kitchen and a very popular teppanyaki bar, and spectacular signature cocktails all named for gemstones like Malachite, Rhodonite and Obsidian. Their cuisine modern Asian, with dishes like Hokkien Style Seafood Salad, Edamame Truffle Dumplings, Prawn Hargow, Sweet Miso Black Cod…get the drift? Most definitely a place worth a visit, but remember to make a booking.
Address: Sri Aurobindo Marg, behind Qutub Golf Course, Kutub Golf Course, Lado Sarai, New Delhi, Delhi 110030
Dirty Jungle
How would you like an evening deep in a tropical jungle right in the heart of a city? A perfect place for an unusual evening out, or maybe to throw a jungle themed party! The kitchen uses only the freshest produce to satisfy its patrons, and its eclectic menu keeps everyone happy. The bartender could be your new best friend as he curates special jungle themed cocktails just for you. Dirty Jungle is an experience not to be missed. Head for the Musical Fountain Park, One Golden Mile, Netaji Nagar, but do call ahead before you go.
Address: Musical Fountain Park, Ground Floor, Block 7A and Block 7B within Block 3 One Golden Mile, Shaheed Sudhir Tyagi Marg, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110023
Zylo by Kakapo
Spend an evening in the company of the majestic Qutab Minar as you sip your favourite cocktail. Or then again, try something new instead, like a Pinas or a Soul Breeze or a Tifftini as you soak in the relaxing ambience. Their contemporary menu is vast, each dish artistically presented, and delicious to eat. The Celeriac Shwarma, the Pomelo Salad and Lychee Duck are outstanding. Rated as one of the best new bars in Delhi and a ‘must experience’ for foodies and tipplers, Zylo’s in Ambatta One, Mehrauli.
Address: Ambwatta One Complex, H 5/5 Warn No. 1, Kalka Das Marg, Mehrauli, New Delhi, Delhi 110030
Chica
Not exactly brand new, but worth a visit if you’ve not already been there cause everyone’s talking about Chica! You have to book a table at least a week in advance if you want to see what the fuss is about. The fine dining restaurant is known mostly for its amazing ambience with outdoor seating, perfect for a quiet dinner with someone special or for a party. The menu has something for everyone with a mix of Italian, Mediterranean, Asian and Continental. Take your time with the Bar Menu, the cocktail list is long and most interesting. Will it be the Dirty Dancer or Tokyo Tea or the Squeeze Japanese? Or should you have the French 75 Spritzer? Difficult decisions, but you have the inclination and the time!
Address: One Golden Mile, Block A, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110023
Zooey
Richly done in black and gold, with indoor and outdoor seating, this Culinary Bar is located in D Block, Defence Colony. Start with drinks of course, the menu has an extensive selection of wines and spirits on offer, but as I always say – we can drink wine and spirits and home – but surprising ourselves with uniquely flavoured cocktails is a great experience. Be a daredevil and order the Peru Lanka or the Spiced Paloma Margarita or perhaps The Smoked Temptation will, well, tempt you. The food is a mix of popular Mediterranean, Italian, Grills and Oriental dishes. And they have attractive brunch packages.
Address: D-26, Shiniwas Puri, Block D, Defence Colony, New Delhi, Delhi 110024
Ivoryy Cocktail Garden
A new entrant in the Panchsheel Rendezvous Complex, Malviya Nagar, Ivoryy has become very popular for its chilled-out indoor and outdoor ambience. The food menu lists favourites like Pizzas, Dim sums, Lebanese food and Grills, all at very reasonable prices. The food is very delicious, the staff very attentive. The Bar menu is fairly straightforward, you’re sure to find your choice of tipple – except for one thing, and surely the best experience in this place- a very cleverly curated fixed cocktail menu that comes in stages, and really hits the spot. Well done I must say!
Address: T- 540, panchshila park, Malviya nagar road, New Delhi, Delhi, 110017
YOUnion
This funky high energy all-day bar will leave you wanting for more. First its décor – There are two Zones. Zone 1 is the Rose Room with everything, and I mean everything is done up in shades of pink. Immersive experience, I would say. Zone 2 is the Mexican Room, so you know what to expect. The Bar Menu boasts 300 different shots and a big range of slushies besides all the standard cocktails and straight drinks. The food menu features all the usual favourites, but we should make a special mention of the tapas and bowls. There’s always some action at YOUnion, so before you go there, have a look at the special promotions and live music planned for the week. Qutab Institutional Area, folks!
Address: Qutub Hotel, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg, Block C, Qutab Institutional Area, New Delhi, Delhi 110017
