Kongu Nadu cuisine, mostly found in the Western part of Tamil Nadu, is known for simple flavours that combine locally sourced fresh produce with ingredients like Turmeric (pause), pepper (pause), cumin seeds (pause) and other indigenous spices. A vegetarian favorite is Arisi Paruppu Sadam – a one pot healthy dish made with rice and lentils. Non vegetarians will love the Kongu Mutton curry which is a dish cooked in a thick gravy made of tomato, onions, chiliies, curry leaves and lots of turmeric.

Distinctive to Kanniyakumari and its surroundings, Nanjil Nadu cuisine is a delectable mix of the rich culinary traditions of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Fish and coconut are predominantly used, and flavours are enhanced by spices like Pepper, Chilies, Ginger, and Garlic. Seafood lovers must try the Nanjil Fish Curry while vegetarians can savour the Avial, a healthy, flavorful dish of mix vegetables in a coconut and turmeric sauce. For dessert, enjoy the Plate cake, a local specialty made from rice and coconut.
