If you have binged something on Netflix this month, chances are it’s The Perfect Couple. Nicole Kidman leads in this gripping drama that transforms a luxurious wedding weekend on Nantucket Island into a murder mystery.
The plot revolves around a wealthy group of characters, with a killer lurking among them. It’s not just the storyline that has captured the world’s attention; viewers are also eager to explore the show’s picturesque filming location.
According to Variety, from September 6-12, The Perfect Couple garnered an impressive 3.4 billion minutes viewed. The Netflix series is the first to surpass 3 billion minutes on Luminate’s chart since the release of Bridgerton Season 2 Part 2 in June.
Google searches for “The Perfect Couple location” have surged by 350% this past week, as reported by static.com. This newfound interest in the series has led to a significant increase in demand for trips to Nantucket.
Data from Islands.com indicates that Google searches for “Nantucket” have skyrocketed by 1,350% since the show’s premiere on Netflix on September 5, 2024. Searches for “Where is Nantucket” have risen by 250%, and “Where was The Perfect Couple filmed?” is up by 300%.
Where Was The Perfect Couple Filmed?
Both the Netflix series and Elin Hilderbrand’s novel are set in Nantucket, a picture book island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The island is a two-hour 15 minute ferry ride from the mainland and a tricky place to transport an entire cast and crew, though. Instead, the Winburys’ massive mansion, Summerland, was filmed in Chatham, Cape Cod on the mainland. The Cape Cod landscape, complete with endless hydrangeas, was a perfect match for the family’s expansive grounds.
‘Because the majority of The Perfect Couple was filmed on location in Chatham, the production has an authentic Cape and island feel,’ Hilderbrand told Boston.com.
Furthermore, the production also took place at the historic Chatham Beach and Tennis Club, situated at Lighthouse Beach, as showcased in one of the trailers for The Perfect Couple. The crew converted Northport Plaza, currently home to Elwood’s Raw Bars, into the Nantucket Police Department. Netflix constructed an interrogation room and a jail cell in the basement, which David Eldredge, co-owner of Elwood’s, had hoped they would leave behind, but unfortunately, they did not.
Where Else Was the Perfect Couple Filmed?
Don’t worry: Nantucket wasn’t entirely left out of the filming process. According to Boston.com, the crew honored the novel’s original setting by shooting some B-roll footage, including key overhead shots, on the island. “The second unit shot extensively on Nantucket itself, and the script includes inside references to places like Bartlett’s Farm,” said Hilderbrand, referring to the island’s oldest and largest family-owned farm.
A representative for the show also told Elle Decor that parts of the series were filmed in London and Los Angeles.
