Pret A Manger, UK-based coffee and sandwich chain opened its first store in India today. Pret A Manger, which means “ready to eat” in French, was founded in London in 1983, with the first shop opening the following year and soon after the chain with the star sign, chrome furniture and freshly prepared offerings became a reliable constant in every Londoner’s life. Finally in India, Pret has opened its first store in Mumbai’s BKC next to Jio World Drive.
The Pret A Manger Mumbai store offers a range of sandwiches, baguettes, salads, and soups, as well as a variety of organic coffee, tea, shakes and smoothie options. It is largely stocked with the UK’s classic menu including Pret Pickle and Posh Cheddar Granary Sandwich, Avocado and Toms- Stone Baked Baguette, Smoked Salmon Protein Box Salad, but it also features a few local flavours – like the Bombay Toastie and a spicy paneer and lima bean soup.
Unlike Prets abroad that are anchored in quick service, the Mumbai store has a large dining space spread across 2,567 sq. ft. Expect a mix of loungy sofas, tables for groups and even high chairs lined against glass walls for ample people-watching. Shelves stacked with sandwiches, salad bowls, wraps, desserts and juices line a wall while a large coffee counter graces the centre. Ordering is streamlined and easy. Customers can pick their choice of eats and pay for with their coffee order at the counter. Quirky food posters and a gigantic star — the Pret logo perk up the space
The 39-year-old British sandwich shop franchise chain which translates from French to ‘ready-to-eat’ will open a second outlet at Lower Parel’s Palladium Mall in two to three weeks and NCR will get its first outlet at DLF Cyberhub by end-May. The brand currently has 550 outlets around the world, across ten markets including the UK, US, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
