Translating simply to “egg bread,” gyeran-ppang is a favorite in the streets of Seoul, eaten hot for breakfast — or at any other time of day. It consists of small bread-like loaves that are filled with whole eggs, sometimes with ham, cheese, or parsley to add a savory twist to the sweet-and-salty treat. The base is made with a simple egg batter, while the finished loaves may be topped with nuts, tomato sauce, or cheese. These winter belly warmers are usually prepared at street stalls where vendors bake them in specialized, oblong molds. They are usually associated with the long South Korean winter season and are best enjoyed warm and freshly prepared Gyeran PPang.
