Sparkling wine or champagne and freshly squeezed orange juice are combined to make this easy, breezy, light, and fizzy classic breakfast cocktail. Yes you heard that right, Mimosas are consumed mostly with breakfast, and why not especially if it transforms a simple morning meal into a special event. Grand Marnier or bitters can also be added in order to elevate the flavors even further.
Named after an Australian flower that was introduced to Europe by Captain Cook, the first Mimosa was supposedly served in Paris in 1925 by Frank Meier, who was the head barman at The Ritz at the time.
Rumor had it that it was the famous Hollywood director Alfred Hitchcock who introduced Mimosa as a brunch staple in the United States in the 1940s and the rest as they say is history.
While restaurants in parts of India and around the world have slowly started opening up for dining, there’s still sometime before we can freely catch up for brunches with friends and family at our favorite joints, here’s the recipe of Mimosa that you and your friends can make at home and jazz up your weekend by catching up over a virtual brunch/cocktail hour and a raise a toast to the good old times while planning the next meet up (hopefully in person soon).
Classic Mimosa Recipe:
Prep Time: 5 mins
Ingredients: (For 4 Mimosas)
325 ml chilled Sparkling wine, Cava, or Prosecco
2 to 4 cups freshly squeezed orange juice or chilled pulp-free orange juice.
Method:
1. While holding your Champagne flute at a slight tilt, fill the glass about halfway with sparkling wine.
2. Fill the rest of the glass with orange juice, and serve promptly. Feel free to adjust the ratio of sparkling wine to orange juice to suit your preferences (We like our mimosas with more sparkling wine than orange juice)
The Fall Twist:
With autumn vibes all around us, if you wish for the perfect fall twist on the classic that gives you another reason to celebrate the season, then substitute the orange juice with Apple Cider. We especially love the cinnamon-sugar rim.
Apple Cider Mimosa Recipe:
Prep Time: 5 mins
Ingredients for 4 Mimosas
1 cup apple cider
750-ml Champagne
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
Method:
1. On a small plate, mix sugar and cinnamon. Dip champagne flutes in water to wet the rims, then dip in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
2. Fill champagne flutes 1/4 full with apple cider, then top off with champagne.
